HS First Round Auditions

a.   Voice parts with sufficiently large numbers of entries will be randomly divided into 2 zones.

b.  Large school: 40 students and 2 alternates per voice part will advance to the next round. In the case of voice parts with 2 zones, 20 students         and 1 alternate will be chosen from each zone.

                                     c.   Small School: 12 students and 2 alternates per voice part will advance to the next round. In the case of voice parts with 2 zones, 20 students                                             and 1 alternate will be chosen from each zone.

                                    d.    Audition cuts will be released on Wednesday evening prior to the audition.

HELLO!

We are looking forward to a great new school year!

TMEA starts this week. Get ready! Every Tuesday and Thursday at South Hills High School.

Vocamotion has over 35 students registered. We are planning a trip to San Antonio as well as NYC.  The Stinger Chorale will also be super busy! We can't wait to share with you our plans for this year.

We will have a MANDATORY BOOSTER CLUB MEETING 

Wednesday, 9/3/14 from 6 p.m. -7 p.m. 

We will be discussing travel, fund raising, competitions, etc.

We look forward to seeing you then!

I. This group forms an important segment of the listening public. It includes taxpayers and taxpayer groups, individuals, members of a variety of audience types and groups (such as churches, health, civic, and service organizations), individual businessmen and large corporations. Their support provides a local financial base and influences the priorities and goals of quality education in the community. II. The community offers music education assistance by providing: Broad-based support for the goals of music education Time and space in business locations for presentations and for solo and ensemble performances, thereby providing opportunities to reach a wide spectrum of audiences Publicity through storefront presentations, posters, marquees, billboards, newspapers, radio and TV advertising and novelty advertising (e.g., t-shirts and bumper stickers) A heightened public awareness and image of music education and appreciation of diverse musical styles Merchandise and services in support of special projects, purchasing blocks of tickets to music events, and a direct source of funding for these items: Scholarships and awards Fund-raising projects The underwriting of concerts, tours, commissioned works, and other projects Gifts donated in support of music education program III. Music education contributes to the business community by: Providing musical activities to enrich the quality of life in the community with performances at: Individual businesses and malls Community events such as parades and patriotic activities Civic and service organization functions Health care facilities and retirement homes Seasonal activities Ceremonial and religious functions Providing the means to develop and nurture lifetime commitments to music Serving as a focal point for the development of community pride and unity Creating public awareness and recognition of gifts, services and special opportunities provided by the business community Creating awareness of the community and its business and non-business organizations while participating in out-of-town activities and events IV. Specific actions in developing support from the business community: Be clear, concise and direct in communicating the philosophy, goals and objectives of your program to this influential group. Develop definite goals and strategies concerning community involvement. Maintain quality as your foremost goal and achieve or exceed the community's expectations of this goal. Be available to speak or create performances at civic clubs, service organizations and corporate meetings to demonstrate your commitment to the community's "Quality of Life". Encourage active participation in music education activities by donation of services or merchandise. Develop and practice tact and diplomacy in initiating mutual support programming. Understand and respect the needs of the business community and give consideration to the musical tastes of particular segments of that community when planning programs or presentations. Initiate cooperative ventures to bring national prominence to community and the music group.

TMEA ENTRY PROCEDURE

TMEA ENTRY PROCEDURE
We compete in TMEA Region 7. All TMEA entries must be made online by the Choral Director of each school. This includes the Middle School All-Region Choir contest, and High School All-State Choir Contest. Students will have to be entered for each contest (HS District, HS Region, MS Region and HS Pre Area.)

click on the online entry link or click on a link for further instructions. If you need further assistance
with the online entry process contact the music office.
The Choir Director is solely responsible for entering students in these contests. The Choral Music office will pay for all entry fees and transportation for the above events. Copies of your entry form and a bus request must be sent to the Choral Music office one week prior to the TMEA deadline.
You must enter your students before the deadline.
You must submit a copy of the paper work to the choral music office to process for payment.
Students will not be allowed to perform this year if Region 7 does not have the check by the time of the event.

FWISD HIGH SCHOOL HONOR CHOIR RULES AND REGULATIONS

MEMBERSHIP
The FWISD Honor Choir will consist of approximately 100 members with 25 singers in each of the following voice classifications: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass.

ELIGIBILITY
• Students who successfully pass the TMEA Region 7 “District” Audition will automatically be
considered as a member of the FWISD Honor Choir.
• Each FWISD High School with a choral program must send at least one, student to the
High School Honor Choir audition.
• Additional members (if needed) will be auditioned at each campus by the Director of Choral and
General Music. A CD piano accompaniment of the audition pieces for the FWISD High School Honor
Chorus will be provided prior to auditions.
• If no chorus class is offered at a High school, information concerning the FWISD Honor Choir will be made available to interested students through the Principal.
Additional Information:
• All Honor Choir members and alternates will attend ALL the rehearsals (the total time) and
performances and concert.
• Each section leader (SATB) will be assigned to keep attendance records for rehearsals and
performances.

Endy Romero, Tenor 1 selected as 2nd Chair in TMEA Region 7 choir

Congratulation to Senior Endy Romero!

Endy was selected as Second Chair over hundreds of students in Texas Region 7.

Endy and round two performers including Steven Carnley, Elizabeth Harwood and Alexis Moses will perform in the Region 7 Honor Choir Concert. Saturday, November 16 at Weatherford HS.

TMEA Overview

The Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) sponsors a series of district, region, area, and state auditions.

1. First Audition - The top 40 ranked students in each of the eight vocal sections (Soprano I, Soprano II, Alto I, Alto II, Tenor I, Tenor II, Bass I, and Bass II) will be chosen to advance to the next level of auditions.

2. Second (All-Region Choir) Audition - The top 40 singers in each section from the last audition will compete. The top 12 ranked students in each section at this contest earn membership into the All-Region Choir and will advance to the next level. They will receive a patch and will be required to attend the All-Region Clinic and Concert in November. Students who are ranked 13-24 will earn membership into the All-District Choir. They will receive a patch and will be required to attend the All-District Choir Clinic and Concert. 

3. Third (Pre-Area) Choir Audition - At this level, the 12 advancing singers from each section from the previous contest will audition twice...once singing cuts the literature and a second time sight-reading a line of music. These winners will be announced at the conclusion of the All-Region Choir Concert. The top 5 students from each section chosen will advance to the last level…

4. Texas All-State Choir Audition - The top 5 singers from each section in Region VII will join the top 5 singers in each section from three other regions of Texas to audition for the Texas All State Choir. From the 15 students in each section, the top 4 will be named to the Texas All State Mixed Choir. The treble singers that finish in places 5-10 will be named to the All State Treble Choir. The tenor-bass singers that finish in places 5-8 will be named to the All State Men’s Choir. The Texas All-State Choirs will perform in San Antonio at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in February.

About this Audition...

The top 5 chairs from Region 5, 6, 7, and 22 will audition to be placed in one of three All-State Choirs. Chairs 1-4 in all eight sections will make up the All-State Mixed Choir; Chairs 5 and 6 are alternates. Chairs 5-10 in the women's sections will make up the All-State Women's Choir with chairs 11-12 as alternates. Chairs 5-8 in the men's section will make up the All-State Men's Choir with chairs 9-10 as alternates.

About this Audition...

Pre-registration will begin at 1:00 PM on the day that FWISD gets out of school for Thanksgiving Holidays. After the audition, the students will eat dinner and return to the school to rehearse The Rose at Midnight. The top ranked 12 singers from the Second Round will audition. Like the Second Round, students will sing cuts from two selections AND sight-sing at this audition. The top 5 ranked singers plus 2 alternates from each section will advance to the Third Round. The students selected for this round will be introduced at the All-Region Clinic and Concert the following night at Weatherford High School.

They will receive a patch and will be required to attend the All-Region Clinic and Concert in November. They also qualify to audition for the next level.

Things to bring...

This day lasts  forever so you will want to bring something to read or quiet games to play. Please wear clothes in which you feel the most comfortable. Bring a pillow to sleep, plenty of water to drink, snacks to eat and money to spend on food to eat while you wait to sing. Bring a good attitude and patience! 

Things NOT to bring...

DO NOT bring CD players, mp3 players, radios, tablet devices, or TV’s. Any noise making device that might disturb others concentrating on the audition process.
