 You were all wonderful. I would have been honored to have each of you be involved but we are limited by our parts ratios. :-(

HS First Round Auditions
a.   Voice parts with sufficiently large numbers of entries will be randomly divided into 2 zones.
b.  Large school: 40 students and 2 alternates per voice part will advance to the next round. In the case of voice parts with 2 zones, 20 students         and 1 alternate will be chosen from each zone.
                                     c.   Small School: 12 students and 2 alternates per voice part will advance to the next round. In the case of voice parts with 2 zones, 20 students                                             and 1 alternate will be chosen from each zone.
                                    d.    Audition cuts will be released on Wednesday evening prior to the audition.

Welcome Back!

HELLO!
We are looking forward to a great new school year!
TMEA starts this week. Get ready! Every Tuesday and Thursday at South Hills High School.

Vocamotion has over 35 students registered. We are planning a trip to San Antonio as well as NYC.  The Stinger Chorale will also be super busy! We can't wait to share with you our plans for this year.

We will have a MANDATORY BOOSTER CLUB MEETING 
Wednesday, 9/3/14 from 6 p.m. -7 p.m. 
We will be discussing travel, fund raising, competitions, etc.

The Business Community as Patrons of Music Education

I. This group forms an important segment of the listening public. It includes taxpayers and taxpayer groups, individuals, members of a variety of audience types and groups (such as churches, health, civic, and service organizations), individual businessmen and large corporations. Their support provides a local financial base and influences the priorities and goals of quality education in the community.
II. The community offers music education assistance by providing:
  1. Broad-based support for the goals of music education
  2. Time and space in business locations for presentations and for solo and ensemble performances, thereby providing opportunities to reach a wide spectrum of audiences
  3. Publicity through storefront presentations, posters, marquees, billboards, newspapers, radio and TV advertising and novelty advertising (e.g., t-shirts and bumper stickers)
  4. A heightened public awareness and image of music education and appreciation of diverse musical styles
  5. Merchandise and services in support of special projects, purchasing blocks of tickets to music events, and a direct source of funding for these items:
    1. Scholarships and awards
    2. Fund-raising projects
    3. The underwriting of concerts, tours, commissioned works, and other projects
    4. Gifts donated in support of music education program
III. Music education contributes to the business community by:
  1. Providing musical activities to enrich the quality of life in the community with performances at:
    1. Individual businesses and malls
    2. Community events such as parades and patriotic activities
    3. Civic and service organization functions
    4. Health care facilities and retirement homes
    5. Seasonal activities
    6. Ceremonial and religious functions
  2. Providing the means to develop and nurture lifetime commitments to music
  3. Serving as a focal point for the development of community pride and unity
  4. Creating public awareness and recognition of gifts, services and special opportunities provided by the business community
  5. Creating awareness of the community and its business and non-business organizations while participating in out-of-town activities and events
IV. Specific actions in developing support from the business community:
  1. Be clear, concise and direct in communicating the philosophy, goals and objectives of your program to this influential group.
  2. Develop definite goals and strategies concerning community involvement.
  3. Maintain quality as your foremost goal and achieve or exceed the community's expectations of this goal.
  4. Be available to speak or create performances at civic clubs, service organizations and corporate meetings to demonstrate your commitment to the community's "Quality of Life".
  5. Encourage active participation in music education activities by donation of services or merchandise.
  6. Develop and practice tact and diplomacy in initiating mutual support programming.
  7. Understand and respect the needs of the business community and give consideration to the musical tastes of particular segments of that community when planning programs or presentations.
  8. Initiate cooperative ventures to bring national prominence to community and the music group.

TMEA ENTRY PROCEDURE

EVENTS
TMEA ENTRY PROCEDURE
We compete in TMEA Region 7. All TMEA entries must be made online by the Choral Director of each school. This includes the Middle School All-Region Choir contest, and High School All-State Choir Contest. Students will have to be entered for each contest (HS District, HS Region, MS Region and HS Pre Area.)

click on the online entry link or click on a link for further instructions. If you need further assistance
with the online entry process contact the music office.
The Choir Director is solely responsible for entering students in these contests. The Choral Music office will pay for all entry fees and transportation for the above events. Copies of your entry form and a bus request must be sent to the Choral Music office one week prior to the TMEA deadline.
You must enter your students before the deadline.
You must submit a copy of the paper work to the choral music office to process for payment.
Students will not be allowed to perform this year if Region 7 does not have the check by the time of the event.

FWISD HIGH SCHOOL HONOR CHOIR RULES AND REGULATIONS

MEMBERSHIP
The FWISD Honor Choir will consist of approximately 100 members with 25 singers in each of the following voice classifications: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass.

ELIGIBILITY
• Students who successfully pass the TMEA Region 7 “District” Audition will automatically be
considered as a member of the FWISD Honor Choir.
• Each FWISD High School with a choral program must send at least one, student to the
High School Honor Choir audition.
• Additional members (if needed) will be auditioned at each campus by the Director of Choral and
General Music. A CD piano accompaniment of the audition pieces for the FWISD High School Honor
Chorus will be provided prior to auditions.
• If no chorus class is offered at a High school, information concerning the FWISD Honor Choir will be made available to interested students through the Principal.
Additional Information:
• All Honor Choir members and alternates will attend ALL the rehearsals (the total time) and
performances and concert.
• Each section leader (SATB) will be assigned to keep attendance records for rehearsals and
performances.

Attendance 
Unlike individual activities such as an academic class, it is impossible to makeup activities that occur in a choir rehearsal. Absences will have a negative impact on the student's grade.

Additional Rehearsals/Activities 
Students will be given adequate notice of all additional rehearsals and activities outside of the regular class  period. These rehearsals and activities are course requirements and are vital to the success of the choral  program. Every effort will be made to minimize the amount of out-of-class time required. Therefore, absences from these activities will be treated in the same manner as an absence from class, and will affect the student's grade.
In the event of a conflict with another scheduled school activity, it is the responsibility of the student to notify the sponsors of the activities. The sponsors will then determine the student's obligation.

Concert Attendance 
Concerts are the ultimate evaluation of many weeks of preparation and class work. Choir members are expected to be present for the entire time of each required concert. An unexcused absence from a concert will lower the student's grade dramatically. Absences and tardies will be excused for cases of medical emergency or death in the family. Prior notification of any conflict with a required concert or rehearsal is required. Students are held responsible for keeping up with the dates and times of scheduled activities. 
If a student misses class, an additional rehearsal/activity or concert due to an extenuating circumstance, every effort will be made to accommodate the student with a similar make up activity.

Rehearsal Etiquette 
The single most important factor in the overall success of any choir is the work it accomplishes during its rehearsals.
A positive attitude towards director and fellow choir members is vital.
Good concentration on the present has to take precedence over past classes or experiences as well as future classes or experiences.
A pencil in hand is required. Please mark your music diligently. This allows you to be a responsible choir member by keeping up with the progress of the music.

Concert Etiquette 
1. Arrive on time.
2. Stay seated except for intermission and the end of the concert.
3. If you must, exit your seat only between selections.
4. Remove restless or crying children.
5. Turn cell phones and pagers off.
6. Don't talk or whisper during a performance.
7. Don't clap until you're certain that a piece is finished.
8. Whistling, whooping or shouting is not appropriate.
9. Do not eat or drink anything in the concert space.
10. Stay until the end of the performance.

Classroom Rules 
1. Be in your assigned seat with folder and pencil when the bell rings.
2. Do not talk without permission.
3. Keep your hands, feet, books, and objects to yourself.
4. No gum, food, candy, or drinks are allowed. [This includes before and after school.]
5. No grooming in the choir room.
If a student fails to follow one or more classroom rules, the director is assuming they have temporarily
forgotten what the rules are. The director is more than willing to remind students of what they have forgotten.
Reminders will result in temporary removal from the choir room, parent conferences, detention, disciplinaryreferrals, and permanent removal from the choir program at the discretion of the director.
